Who wants to work with Sugar this summer?
This teenage mare stands 14.3 and has a willing heart. She participated and did very well in the Dakota Showdown last year in the Challenge (now Foundation) Division, however her trainer discovered squamous cell carcinoma on her vulva once she earned her trust. Sugar completed several months of chemotherapy treatment and then underwent surgery in the fall to remove what remained of the tumor, so she was unable to complete the Showdown.
Her 2023 trainer, Cara McWilliams, did an amazing job building her confidence and establishing a good Foundation, and even getting her under saddle - so this year we hope is her year! She's healthy, happy, and ready to continue her training! She can still be cautious and slow to trust, and catching can be difficult, but she has shown her resilience and willingness to learn.
