#RehabRoundup - let's check in on the horses currently in rehab at the rescue
Medical
NEW: Whiskey (in photo) - new owner surrender due to laminitic episode and metabolic syndrome diagnosis. Very sore since arriving, in small pen under evaluation.
NEW: Sugar has returned from her training and rehab foster due to lack of space for the winter. She has been undergoing chemo for a malignant tumor on her vulva. We will be finishing her treatment and hopefully she will undergo surgery to remove the tumor in the next month. We will need to raise the funds to complete her treatment!
NEW: Paisley - corneal ulcer in left front eye. Triple antibiotic eye ointment several times a day and stall rest.
Rocky - recent intake due to inability to maintain weight. Gaining weight quickly with the addition of high fat and senior pellets to his diet twice a day.
Plucky - laminitic episode, week 4. Started Prascend for Cushings. Still stiff and slightly tender, is getting 1/2 day turnout to encourage movement to help with stocking up.
Reba - cuts on left front knee, on stall rest. Continues to adjust well to her blindness from a training accident. Have started short walks for movement.
Phoebe - rehab for weight gain. Continues to gain, will consider applications for Pasture Pal placement to an experienced home.
Benny - navicular and weight gain. The recent cold snap did cause him to show some discomfort even on Equioxx. Continued monitoring. Concerned that pain may be unmanageable and further decisions my need to be made.
Behavior
Kody - in pasture, calming, and curious. Physical condition fully rehabbed, working on friendliness.
Lucy - in pasture, calm and friendly. Much calmer when bonded friends removed from pasture and accepting attention even in a group of friends without aggression. Next step: haltering and leading away from friends. Goal: Dakota Showdown 2024 prospect.
