Rehab Roundup - October 4, 2023

#RehabRoundup - let's check in on the horses currently in rehab at the rescue

🏥Medical 🏥

Plucky (featured image) - laminitic episode, week 2. Continues to maintain, some stocking up on stall rest. Potential abscess on left front and starting hand walking. Blood test results are back and her thyroid and insulin levels tested in the normal range. ACTH (for Cushings) was elevated but at a range that could be considered almost normal for this time of year, and given her history, body type, and test she is being started on 1/2 tablet of Prascend daily and will redo bloodwork for Cushings in 60 days.

Pepper - leg wound, week 3of rehab. Has healed and Pepper has been upgraded to a small pen and minimal wrapping. Continued rehab for healing.

Phoebe - rehab for weight gain. Continues to gain, will consider applications for Pasture Pal placement to an experienced home.

Benny - navicular and weight gain. Equioxx has helped immensely and he's improving well. Saw farrier, needs to grow to trim much, moving well. Will consider applications for a Pasture Pal/light riding home that can continue his maintenance.

Reba - returned from training thin and blind from an injury. Has been upgraded from pen rest to a paddock with about 8 other horses and is doing well. Will likely remain in rehab for blind horse training and may be a permanent resident.

🥕 Behavior 🥕

Kody - in pasture, calming, and curious. Physical condition fully rehabbed, working on friendliness.

Lucy - in pasture, calm and friendly. Much calmer when bonded friends removed from pasture and accepting attention even in a group of friends without aggression. Next step: haltering and leading away from friends. Goal: Dakota Showdown 2024 prospect.
