Pepper is available for adoption through our annual Homes for the Holidays!

Pepper’s life has been filled with twists and turns, but through it all, she’s shown a quiet resilience and a gentle spirit. Now in her mid-20s, Pepper spent many years as part of a small herd, cared for by a loving owner. When her owner had to enter a nursing home, her herd mates went to Borderlands Horse Sanctuary. But Pepper, ever independent, refused to load onto the trailer and instead had to be walked to a new temporary home.

 

Eventually, she was run onto a trailer and placed with a family, but she struggled to maintain her weight. When the family could no longer care for her, they reached out to us. After another trailer run, Pepper arrived at Gentle Spirit Horses Rescue, where she has truly flourished.

Despite her age and a touch of arthritis in her backend, Pepper has become an easy keeper, maintaining her weight without any extra feed. She’s even conquered her trailer fears, willingly loading onto one—a huge milestone for her!

She enjoys pasture in the summer and spends winters in a smaller paddock, where we can monitor her closely and provide any pain relief or extra feed she might need.

 

At her age, Pepper likely has limited time left, but she deserves to spend those years surrounded by love and care. While she’ll always have a home with us, we’d love to see her in a family where she can enjoy daily attention, soft words, and the warmth of her very own person.
