Let's say a big hello to our newest friend - Danny! This lovely BLM Mustang gelding, about 20 years old, has come to the shelter thanks to a very loving family who cared.
Danny is a very loved horse whose owner passed away back in April. His owner's sister reached out as she worked on taking care of things to see if we could take him in, as his owner was very supportive of rescue and loved animals. She even fostered for a cat rescue! It's taken some time to get things arranged, but we were able to pick up Danny this weekend and are grateful to have this sweet boy who is very used to attention safe!
That said - he is a big boy. He needs to lose some weight but he's just been on pasture so he likely has a metabolic issue. For now, we've started him on Smart Metabo-lean and will introduce some exercise.
Danny is a sweet and easy to handle gelding who loaded right into the trailer. He has been trail ridden extensively in the past in Colorado, but hasn't been ridden much the last few years since moving to South Dakota so will likely need some refresher rides. We will be accepting applications for adoption and spending time to get to know him in the next week. This boy needs a forever family who will continue to provide him the attention and love he is so obviously used to!
