Jack came to us last year from a neglect case at a body condition score of 1, with his blood work showing he was in organ failure. In other words, near death. Oh, and he was a stallion. A few weeks later our vet asked if we lost him ... but nope, we didn't!
Then, he recovered enough to be gelded and as luck would have it, he herniated in recovery and had to have emergency surgery to save his life.
Jack took a very long time to let go of the testosterone in his body and was aggressive to geldings even well after the 60 days of recovery. We had to build a very strong pen and give him two companions that he tolerated just to give him time to get the hormones under control and his head on straight. We truly worried that he would be unable to be with other horses. Through it all, however, he remained sweet and easy to handle by humans.
Eventually, Jack's hormones leveled out, he was allowed back out in the herd, and he became a good herd mate. He's back up to weight, is friendly and truly likes people, and keeps to himself and a small group of friends in pasture. In other words, he's a completely different horse ... the "most improved" of the past year!
And now, Jack is ready for a home. He's 13 years old, about 15.1-15.2 hands, pretty easy to handle, decent for farrier, accepts a saddle and has accepted a rider. He is ready to go home with you and continue his education to become a great riding partner and best friend!
