Changes and Growth

i Apr 22, 2014 by Tiffany Ring

We've hinted, posted some pictures, even said it a few times.  Now, we officially announce: as of May 1, GSH is leasing an additional 28 acres approximately 6 miles from our current Renner location.

It's exciting, of course, and overwhelming.  There is a lot to do.  This land has been a cattle pasture for the last several years, so retrofitting[...]

Keeping Callie Safe - A Recap

Keeping Callie Safe - A Recap

i Apr 02, 2014 by Tiffany Ring

For the past six weeks, Gentle Spirit Horses has worked hard to fundraise to secure the offspring of a previously adopted mare who was consigned to the Buckeye Morgan Horse Auction in Ohio.  The good news is we secured her and she's now in foster in Michigan, settling in, has a pending home, and is doing great!  The bad news is we are about $900[...]

Gentle Spirit Horses Rescue & Sanctuary is a PENDING 501(c)(3) organization ... and some history.

i Mar 16, 2014 by Tiffany Ring

The next big step

i Feb 16, 2014 by Tiffany Ring

The next big step for GSHGSH has taken the next big step in our organization.  As of today we've completed and submitted the 501(c)3 application and paperwork.  Now we wait for our determination letter!

When we originally incorporated, it was always our plan to become a 501(c)3.  We've saved up the funds for it a few times, only to have to use the money for hay or other[...]

When we first incorporated, the Iowa41 Morgans were placed under a different contract than we use now. The unborn foals fell in a gray area. Because we placed the Morgans mostly with very respected people in the Morgan community, we placed them with a Transfer of Ownership with First Right of Refusal clause. The unborn foals fell into a gray area.[...]

i Feb 13, 2014 by Tiffany Ring

Good news for South Dakota - the Senate has approved making animal cruelty a felony.  South Dakota is the last state in the country to NOT have a felony punishment, so it's about time.  Read more about it here: http://www.argusleader.com/viewart/20140213/UPDATES/302130069/Senate-approves-making-animal-cruelty-felony

Of course, we think this is a[...]

RIP Omar’s Wendy, grand old lady of the Iowa 41 Morgan herd

If you've been around long enough, you know that GSH went from being a private, family run rescue to an incorporated public rescue in a hurry, when in November of 2010 we ended up working with a breeder to place 41 Morgan horses who were out of food and out of control. These were all lovely, well bred horses, and the grand old lady of the herd was[...]

Common Sense Cold Management for Horses

Common Sense Cold Management for Horses

i Dec 13, 2013 by Tiffany Ring

Cold weather can be very hard on our horses, and in Renner we recently went through an early extended cold snap.  Actual temperatures were hovering around 0 and down to -15, with windchills of -20s to -30s.  The snap lasted for several days, which increased the problems.  At the same time, the cold snap brings out lots of opinions and debates as[...]

A Home for the Holidays

i Nov 19, 2013 by Tiffany Ring

Announcing our "Home for the Holidays" Adoption Event.  The 7 horses listed here - Star, Jackie, Jinny, Sammy, Dex, Butters, and Shelly - are a special group. All have good ground manners, but for various reasons are currently either unbroke or have physical reasons that limit their adoptability. So, for the rest of the year, these seven are[...]
