Rachel is a sweet, curious mare who is currently undergoing 60 days training at Little Lake Equestrian Center in Wisconsin.

Rachel is a sweet, curious mare who is ready to move onto her next phase of training. Rachel is catchable and halter broke and working on lunging and basic ground work when she comes in. She also loads well onto a trailer and ties. Summer 2018, Rachel won 60 days of professional training in WI and will be started under saddle before coming back to South Dakota though we hope she gets adopted straight from the trainer!

While she will continue to need corrective trims for her front feet due to neglect before intake this girl is sound and loves running all over her pasture and her x-rays of her feet came in clean. At 7 years old or so, Rachel is ready to start under saddle. Also know as the Barbie horse this girl has a mane and foremane that goes forever, so much that we try to keep it braided to avoid wind knots! Rachel would thrive in a home that could give her the attention she deserves.

Rachel is from the International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros, and came to GSH in November of 2016 during a crisis at ISPMB involving county impoundment and seizure, overcrowding and lack of resources, with her 2016 foal Hamilton. Both came in with severe hoof issues and Rachel was assumed to be not sound. Once gentled enough for x-rays, however, we found the structure of her hooves remained nearly perfect even with the horrible twist to her hoof wall itself, which means with corrective trims to remove the twist and deal with the contraction, eventually there is a very good chance she will be riding sound.

As of June 2017, Rachel has had three corrective trims, is out on pasture running and playing sound.
