GSH0116 Painted Lady
Painted Lady ("Lady") is one of the “ISU 7” - a group of horses donated to Iowa State University for their vet and/or breeding program. When they were no longer useful, typically the college will take them to auction. GSH was given the opportunity to take in the ISU 7 and attempt to find them homes. She is a young registered mare, slightly shy but a beautiful mover. We don’t have her papers yet so don’t know her name or breeding, but will update the site when we get them.
Early GSH evaluation shows she has fabulous ground manners. She is catchable in pasture, leads on a loose lead, stands tied. She was good for grooming all over and picked up all four feet easily. She's smart and curious and very friendly. Though she doesn't appear to be started under saddle, though I was able to put a saddle pad on after just a few minutes, and I believe she will be a very fast learner.
Lady has been in three placements since coming to GSH. 11/2011 she went to Jessica, who got her working under saddle but realized she wasn't really suited for barrells. From there, she went into a placement in a home that was looking for a hunt horse. After a few months we received a call that her home couldn't care for her anymore, so she was picked up and brought back to GSH. Since early 2013 she has been in a home with a family and doing great. She's been ridden sporadically and is a good girl, she just likely will need a refresher but should remember her manners quickly. She will be fostered near Forest City, IA, until such time we schedule a trip to the South Dakota pasture.
