Many have forgotten this truth, but we must never forget it... we remain forever responsible for that which we have tamed.
12 year old Quarter Horse Gelding
Albert came to GSH as part of a large seizure of horses from Kingsbury County, South Dakota. He had a long-term injury to his leg that has healed. He is available for adoption now that he has been gelded. Note: he does not have a large star, he had a scrape that was being treated in this photo.
21 year old Quarter Horse Mare
Quinn came to GSH as part of a large seizure of horses from Kingsbury County, South Dakota. The mother of many of the horses in this group, including Albert, she is a 21 year old, very friendly mare. Registered name is Sonny Tru Chick. Quinn is confirmed in foal for a Feb/March baby.
15 year old Quarter Horse Mare
Elsa came to GSH as part of a large seizure from Kingsbury County, South Dakota. She is believed to be Shes Daddys Legacy. She's a tall, leggy mare who is gaining weight nicely. As one of the thinner horses her job has been to eat so we haven't evaluated her training level yet.
13 year old Quarter Horse Arabian Gelding
Kennedy was seized by the Union County Sheriff on 10/4/2018. He has since made a full recovery and is a very beautiful gray boy. We suspect he is a quarter horse/Arabian cross of some sort and is smooth as butter under saddle. He does take an independent rider and we have found that he is not a fan of bits, but prefers to just go out in his halter and some snap on reins. We suspect he would enjoy a sidepull.
Due to the circumstances that he was found in, we will not adopt Kennedy out to a one horse home. This boy needs a companion in order to be happiest.
8 year old Quarter Horse Gelding
Eddie came to GSH as part of a large seizure of horses from Kingsbury County, South Dakota. He was a stallion at intake and has been gelded. He has some nerve damage on the right side of his face but it doesn't affect his ability to eat. He is very friendly.
3 year old Mustang Mare
Angelica or "Jelli" has grown into an absolutely STUNNING horse! She likes people, is very friendly and willing, and has all the potential in the world.. This girl is super friendly, loves to be brushed by volunteers and has had a summer of ground work on her now.
Leeza (Sheza Music Star)
14 year old Paint Mare
Leeza has returned from a long-time adoption (since 2012!) due to some personality conflicts with other horses in her pasture. She's very well trained and gentle, and at one point was recommended to be ridden only by children and small adults due to an underlying back issue. We've seen no signs of any back pain, however would recommend a reasonable weight restriction due to that previous recommendation and her build. She has been well loved and ridden by children and has shown no problems acclimating to two of our herds since returning.
