Keeping Callie Safe - A Recap

For the past six weeks, Gentle Spirit Horses has worked hard to fundraise to secure the offspring of a previously adopted mare who was consigned to the Buckeye Morgan Horse Auction in Ohio.  The good news is we secured her and she's now in foster in Michigan, settling in, has a pending home, and is doing great!  The bad news is we are about $900 short in our fundraising efforts to pay back the Board member who loaned the purchase money to secure her to GSH.

Gentle Spirit Horses Rescue & Sanctuary is a PENDING 501(c)(3) organization ... and some history.

We announced back in January when we filed our 501(c)(3) paperwork, and now have received the first in a series of steps from the IRS to reach our determination.  This simple letter is simply the verification they have received and are processing our application.  With this letter in hand, we can legitimately state we are a pending 501(c)(3) organization.

Kathi Ring and Tiffany Ring of Gentle Spirit Horses Rescue & Sanctuary, along with Shanna Border of Borderlands Horse Sanctuary and volunteer Carla Polkowski will be attending the University of Minnesota's Unwanted Horse Summit this Saturday, March 8, 2014.  Our rescues work closely together and are looking forward to attending this Summit, which promises to not only be informative but also gives us the chance to network and discuss the real issues facing horses and rescues in the Midwest today.

Help us Keep Callie Safe

When we first incorporated, the Iowa41 Morgans were placed under a different contract than we use now. The unborn foals fell in a gray area. Because we placed the Morgans mostly with very respected people in the Morgan community, we placed them with a Transfer of Ownership with First Right of Refusal clause. The unborn foals fell into a gray area. The Morgan adopters have been great about staying in touch, and we are eternally grateful. There have been some differences of opinion - some who have played loose with the "First Right of Refusal" clause - but for the most part we've been able to keep in touch and know that the horses are in good homes. There are only a couple that we have to trust are doing well, as their adopters do not update us. But the Morgan community is fabulous, and Morgan people know the horses that were part of this rescue and their bloodlines.
